Kidaround Founder Barbara Hennelly grew up in in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she developed a love of green chili and a irrational fear of getting run over by a giant tumbleweed.
College brought her to the bay area, where she played on the Santa Clara University women's top ranked soccer team from 1990-1994. She was pretty good, but not good enough to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated in her bra. So it was back to the drawing board, literally. She a took out a loan for an early Macintosh with 80 megs of ram that cost as much as a car. Self taught, she worked at several ad agencies and design firms throughout the Bay Area and Sacramento Valley, when she finally realized she didn't want to punch a clock or work for "the man" anymore, wanted to be able to pick her kids up from school, and wanted to do something more community-oriented (she is on the PR committee for the local Make-A-Wish Foundation chapter, and is on the board of Chicks in Crisis).
So in 2005, she decided to try her hand at mompreneurship and launched Kidaround, a local lifestyle magazine for today's modern moms, revolutionizing the local parenting publishing landscape with elegant, design-industry award winning design, and fun, inspiring and relevant content for local modern moms, by local modern moms, journalists and artists.
